CSC-SYنشره luay في الأربعاء, 12/10/2005 - 6:40م
CSC-SY, Computer SCience in SYria, is the online unofficial portal of a computing community located in the Syrian Arab Republic, having its core formed by university students primarily from computer science faculties in the universities of Damascus, Aleppo, Al-Baath (Homs) and Tshreen (Latakia), and other private universities and academic institutions in the country. Although the driving community is essentially student-based, it also accommodates university professors, members of the Syrian IT industry and many enthusiasts of computing, software and hardware technologies.
CSC-SY was launched in the 24th of January, 2004, after several months of planning and hard work by a handful of then third year computer science students from the four aforementioned universities. Its initial PHP Nuke-based facilities and organization catered the needs of essentially a student community.
CSC-SY underwent a domain change in early 2005, and in the 1st of October, 2005, a new content management system, Drupal, was adopted providing several forward-looking new facilities that promise a more informative and better integrated community portal.
CSC-SY is administrated by four computer science students from the four aforementioned universities, and its content is moderated according to certain declared regulations by a fewer number of moderators appointed by the administrators.
The community proved to be rather self-moderating however, collaboratively creating a de facto and ensuring the proper accommodation of new community members.
CSC-SY, approaching its third year, enjoys a constant growth in content and in the number of new members of the underlying community.
The first official CSC-SY members' summit was held on the 7th of February, 2005, in the seaside city of Latakia.
