Once and for allأرسل من قبل strontium90 في الأربعاء, 2005/11/16 - 4:12am.
I had to say this a long time ago, concerning topics that have certain religious or political colouring that break into CSC-SY forums once in a while, regardless of the fact that initiators are, ironically, often members familiar with forum rules. First of all, ladies and gentlemen, would you say that you definitely can talk and express your opinions about a topic, that may potentially interest you or that you may have opinions about, in all circumstances and with anyone? The answer is obviously no. Guys, would you use profanity or tell a certain class of jokes in the ladies' presence?! And so it is here! Wouldn't I fancy running discussions about existential matters that often bypass the entire religious apparatus? I would; because arts, philosophy, civilizations and humanitarian sciences that all pour in the same vein are my major interest, far more than this petty computer thing. Wouldn't I enjoy hot political arguments, often flavored with bashing and bickering? I most certainly would; and who can (most unfortunately) have more political tornados to live with than us, Middle East inhabitants, and Syrians in particular? However, I'm no blindman. Looking at the big picture I fully reckon that much of our lives revolve around and are confined by the rotation of these two "axes". BUT, this remains one place, and not the only place in fact, we are expected not to arouse these issues in. If real-life opportunities seem insufficient for some of you to express awe for God or to discuss the most tempting political ongoings, there are many, many internet forums devoted to discuss these topics in particular, and they will certainly welcome your posts wholeheartedly. In fact, our adherence to the regulations is just a small token of gratitude for having the opportunity of being a member of a highly specialized community portal that expects froim us nothing but being civil and collaborative members. This post was certainly triggered by the most recent off-colour thread that also had a 204KB zipped presentation attached suggesting rather naive ideas and false generalizations. I just wished that instead of 204KBs of material that is of no use, to say the least, to fellow CS students, that it was instead a source tarball of a common application, or a handout for some lecture. And it is really immature, again to say the least, to make justifications in the lines of "Ayman I know that this may not agree with the rules but..". You've just said it! Bypassing the regulations effectively eliminates the logical basis of all conversation here, so what would you expect? How creditable can your opinions get in the eyes of the community and its leaders? Another fact is that, although it is our beloved Ayman who has paraphrased the community regulations, it is the community that ensures it through the established de facto. There's no single person behind it at the end of the day. After all who remembers the "ones" who set the regulations that our societies' de facto standards depend on.. ? Have a nice and productive day! ( CSC-SY.net )
