Immensely Disappointedأرسل من قبل أيمن في الخميس, 2006/07/13 - 1:31am.
Initializing venting process... done. Well it looks like the quality of contributions here has taken a nose dive recently, and almost all of our members from the site's "golden age" have left the site, I'm very disappointed, and sometimes I tend to believe that it's not worth it anymore, I'd rather not see that site turn into another typical Arabic forum, filled with forwards, copy/pasted material, and pointless discussions. Finalizing venting process... done. ( CSC-SY.net )
It appears that way, I think, because you're constantly deleting the trash topics. As for me and other ordinary csc members, we don't see much of them (which is good It is natural that the nature of posts change with time, there are many new people, and the old ones will probably not have the same interests, or will move on to other things. I think that the problems are not as serious as they might appear to be. With constant care for new users, and telling them what should and shouldn't be done, things improve quickly. There are probably a few things that need to be done, but as a local point of cs activity in syria, the site is currently reasonably successful; and more importantly, it has potential for much greater success. The problem is, our old members aren't around any more to inform new users about the rules...
I'm sorry, I know that my absence has contributed to your disappointment in a way. I wasn't really being online all this past month or so because of being too busy working on the year project, and I believe the same reason prevented many. I don't know about graduates, but I guess the upcoming period will be much better in terms of contributions from students since they'll be into summer vacation. Concerning the "golden age" of the site, I came to believe that summer 2003 - summer 2004 period wasn't really the sole golden age because things have been quite good throughout this past academic year, many interesting topics have been beaten in rather enjoyable threads which I feel are the best discussions we've ever had in the forum.
Well.. I think that most of our golden ages members are now so busy with the year project since most of them are in the forth or fifth year For me I was absent because of the graduation project and so are most people I know... Well.. I was very upset of that threads, and I was thinking if deleting them all To keep the forum out of useless and JUNK discussions I think we should put some type of rules that restrict such threads, Maybe you are talking about the Damscus first year students (of course not all of them) who just came and invaded the site with meaningless threads and posts .... opening tons of new threads for crying on themselves and how they are hopless in this college and alot of other empty threads...as if they were in a chating room... For me .... I don't open a new thread or add a post if I am not sure that it's true and would benefit other members that's why i don't have many technical posts although i read all the technical stuff here .... The previous reason and of course with the absence of the old active members are behind turning the site into a junkyard where everyone can talk with his friends about his personal problems ignoring that this site speciallized in computer science ..... I think the active members will come back soon and return the site to its right way if you see this thread you will see that in the begining it was the same as now but in the final it all was set up Note : Sorry for my bad English 'cause i am trying to improve it
I think Ayman is somewhat overestimating the problem...
Maybe it has something to do with the venting process But seriously I have only one thing to say -I've been repeating this over and over and I'll say it again- we only need to add one simple rule to the posting rules: you can't start a thread if it's not related to CS or Univ. after all this is "Computer Science in Syria" isn't it? I know that this won't fix all of the problems that Ayman have talked about but it'll help to improve the quality of this site. To be completely honest I didn't like the "owner's" tone in Ayman's entry post.

I'm 100% with you..I tried to tell them that this is crying like children, so they hate me I think becuase they became angry of my comment. I think the rule must be "No chating threads,if somebody open a thread and it turns into chat , all chating comments will be removed",the other solution we only need to add one simple rule to the posting rules: you can't start a thread if it's not related to CS or Univ. after all this is "Computer Science in Syria" isn't it?
I do agree with you a kind of these rules will help us Maybe you are talking about the Damscus first year students (of course not all of them) who just came and invaded the site with meaningless threads and posts .... opening tons of new threads for crying on themselves and how they are hopless in this college and alot of other empty threads...as if they were in a chating room... I think the rule must be "No chating threads,if somebody open a thread and it turns into chat , all chating comments will be removed",the other solution You are right, there is no role about the subjects of the threads,we used to read threads opened by old members(Golden ones) so now we feel that the site changed because we aren't read their names and feel their sence of humer alot .. May be you (new members first year or not)could read old threads writen by Golden Members to see this comunity rules before open any thread,I did that, everybody makes mistakes this is the normal, old members threads includes angry from some doctors or exams..not only yours read this as example.. But it's our right to miss the technical threads, discussion about something we can't study in collage ,CS threads without chating pr argumenting..really we miss those days, and I am sorry because I'm one of the members who wasted in some way this site...sorry to Golden members.. A few points: - Whoever thinks that all threads must deal with CS or uni topics is encouraged to think twice because such a rule would move this discussion thread and many of their own topics to the trashcan if not also result in bannings because of violating site regulations. - I believe discussion threads that mainly revolve around complaits about faculty, professors, courses etc are valid ones, of course too much of them and too little of threads dealing with other topics is not good, but after all this is what forums are for; discussing. We have other facilities e.g. news, wiki etc for other types of content which can always be utilized. - I cannot believe what some suggested about old-timers telling newcomers about the regulations. Are you blind?! Go here! - "Golden members" has got to be the dullest thing I've heard here in a while..

Don't interpret things literally I was just summarizing the rule. Of course threads talking about this site and community are valid ones.Actually this rule implicitly exists in the name of the site and in the site mission. Give me one example of a good thread that's not related to IT or univ. "Golden members" has got to be the dullest thing I've heard here in a while..
I guess it was triggered by the term "Golden age" but I think there was neither a golden age nor golden members. There are ups and downs, and members contributions also differ from time to time, which mean our most active and valued member today could be just a record in the database tomorrow.

I do agree with Ayman, especially in these days where members sometimes pass without mentioning anything.
Could be problem because of exams or because of the concern of the members of other activities.
