Just a few minutes ago I received an email with the latest Kaspersky keys, I thought; why should we use AV which requires keys?
So I googled for an Open Source Free AV and I came across this one ClamWin Free Antivirus.
Did you know that there is an Open Source AV? an AV that won't need any key?
Why don't we use it?
I know that most will answer: "It can't be stronger than Kaspersky or blah blah blah", my answer is: "When a lot of us use it, it will be stronger by reporting bugs and unrecognized viruses".
You'd say: "Well, I'm not willing to sacrifice my computer's life for this AV to grow up", my reply would be: "Use a good firewall next to it and you won't lose you computer, try ZoneAlarm Free Firewall"
For my, I'll try it as soon as I download it, it is about 21 MBytes so I won't download it from home.

I've heard about this one a year ago or so,

It looks promising but it's not yet that powerful especially that it doesn't have an on-access (realtime) scanner yet.

not to mention that latest version of Clamwin Free Antivirus is still 0.93.1 so,

 

I guess we'll hear about it when it gets strong enough -or we might use it as a secondary scanner-

Frankly, I do NOT use any antivirus .When my PC get infection I used to google around the infection and have the solution .

 

How would you know that your computer got infected!

Well, I have my own tactics
Sometimes from the effects of the virus (there are a lot of those, even any newbie can discover them (IMO)).

Actually I like this way to get me PC healed.
Never causes any headache for me.On the contrary ,I find an enjoyment in practicing this way.

First test:
I tried both ZoneAlarm Security Suite and ClamWin on a full-of-viruses flash disk, both captured the same viruses.
The database size is 2.41 MB daily, not that big deal on Dial Down.
Even though ClamWin has a Win9x-like window, but it is good till now.
But they're working on it, they didn't forget it.

First shock:
ClamWin can't repair files nor remove viruses, it just can recognize them.
You can from configuration set the action to either delete file of quarantine the file by moving it to another folder!
