if we are talking about normal pc data just important data must be backed up
but if we are talking about my work pc or server I make backup for every thing in scheduled time
and if we are talking about my family shared computer I hope the hard disk brake down and never be fixed again

Yeah option 3 naturally, I backup everything periodically, from system config files to the contents of the KDE sticky notes application.

I think I was Embarassed

after a second look   I notes that the sentences modeling was not appropriate  

never the less our subject is about data backup , but a small advise sneaked here or there is a not a bad thing

and i was just talking about the data on my own beloved LAPTOP...

Well, it's nice to know that  Smile
But isn't that like a waste of space?
And isn't it better to think in the manners of ideas like "the principle of least privilege" or something?

Let me rephrase that:
Shouldn't we avoid the overhead and backup what matters only?
Because I can't seem to find a use in backing up each and every bit of information we "might" need at some point of our entire lifes Smile

Speaking for myself, I choose option #2 ...

i have more the 60 gigabytes

i have more the 60 gigabytes of mp3 files
more than 9 gigabytes of pics
more than 30 giga bytes of e-books
and the list goes on and on....
and i need them all
why do i need backup?

i learned my lesson when my HDD went for a swin
(you really don't want to hear the story)

every file i had was lost in that accident...
some of these files were extremely necessary...

so i always keep three 200 gigabyte HDD(s)with my backups on 'em

and i backup every saturday

i make, edit, print, more than 200 files a day
(not only texts, but designs,songs, etc...)

so in my case i need to be a backup super mega freak...

there are certain files i don't backup... but those are minority...( i don't need them), but i need everything else..
