من النقاط التي قد يعتبرها البعض نقاط ضد توزيعة أوبنتو لينوكس Ubuntu Linux أنها لا يتغير شكلها مع تغيير النسخة. وهذا نوعاً ما صحيح مما أثار جدلاً كبيراً في الآونة الأخيرة في مجتمعات أوبنتو. وبعد صبرٍ طويل أعلنت شركة Canonical المسؤولة عن هذه التوزيعة التصميم الجديد كلياً للتوزيعة, والذي يتضمن رمزاً جديداً Logo غامق وفاتح, ثمة جديدة فاتحة وغامقة, صورة جديدة لمحمل النظام Bootloader Splash. بورصة لندن تودع ال.NET باستقبال ال Linux أكدت بورصة لندن من أنها ستستبدل نظامها الحالي TradElect المبني على تقنيات مايكروسوفت دوت نت بنظام خليط ما بين أنظمة اللينكس وسولارز. النظام السابق طالما تفاخرت به مايكروسوفت في موقعها "احصل على الحقائق" بدى أنه مكلف ولا يعطي تحكم واسع ويحد من قدرات البورصة.

In an effort to expand its Linux offerings, Dell is researching new netbook-type devices and will soon offer netbook Linux OS upgrades, a company official said on Wednesday. The company is researching the possibility of offering new Linux-based mobile devices called smartbooks, said Todd Finch, senior product marketing manager for Linux clients, at the OpenSourceWorld conference in San Francisco. Canonical has launched support services for individual and small-business users of the popular Ubuntu Linux distribution.
The company, which sponsors Ubuntu, already sold helpdesk services for enterprise users. However, the new Desktop Support Services, announced on Friday, are largely aimed at "small businesses looking for a cost-effective alternative to Microsoft Windows and Apple Mac", Canonical said in a statement. more..

So much so, in fact, that I am starting to prefer using my Ubuntu "Jaunty Jackalope" desktop over the similarly slick Windows 7 beta (which I am currently running full-time on one desktop) and Mac OS X Leopard operating systems, which I also use regularly.
I left Windows Vista, XP and even Debian lying bruised and battered by the roadside some time ago. You won't be able to notice the vast improvement in Ubuntu's desktop experience over the past six months by browsing screenshot galleries of 9.04 or looking at new feature lists. What I'm talking about is that elusive slick and speedy feel you get from applications launching fast, windows moving around without jerkiness and everything simply being where it should be in the user interface....more ( )
